Artists Statement:
To me a painting should have a story, a meaning, a feeling about it. Each piece has a story of its own, but may be interrelated to a larger conversation. By using vibrant, luminous layers of color and often passages of text in my paintings, I build these stories and thoughts. I love the idea of seduction – pulling a viewer into the painting with a glimpse of realism, then searching through the energy and urgency of abstracted marks -- and marry the two. Whether I am working with the human form or with the landscape, they each take on personalities - a life of its own - a story to be discovered. The intrigue for me is to bring that about. I work in all the watermedia, but find acrylic best brings out the paintings voice.
